Easy harvest for grass / juice
Compared to barley and hard red winter wheat, Kamut produces a taller, more robust, and more consistent height of grass for juicing. It doesn't flop over as soon as the others if I get behind on my juicing schedule either. I find this makes for relatively easy cutting with scissors, and then rinsing before juicing. It's also recovers consistently for a second harvest, which barley is seemingly incapable of doing under identical conditions.
Kamut vs wheat and barley for grass juice
I've had the opportunity to grow and juice organic, GMO free barley, wheat, and Kamut, and the results confirm what I have read on seed quality. The larger the seed, and the better soil quality it was grown in will translate to more robust grass, and higher yields of juice. The barley was pale, and a second harvest was out of the question. Wheat was much more robust, a deeper green, produced almost twice as much juice from a similar planting, and looks quite capable of a second harvest. Kamut is stronger still. I'll have to add to this review when I know if it will do a second or third harvest. I don't have any way to verify nutrition, but reading suggests seed quality brings a lot of the goodness to the final product. I don't doubt that based on what I've seen in my growing operation. There is some question as to whether soil makes much of a difference for a crop harvested at about 10 days, but I'm using top quality soil anyway, because it just doesn't make much of a cost difference when compared to juice bar prices.
