The Sprout House has been in the sprouting business since 1985โ€”built on the belief that everyone deserves access to fresh, clean, homegrown food.

It all begins with a seed.

1985

Steve "The Sproutman" Meyerowitz was teaching people how to sprout out of his NYC apartment when he realized his students had no easy way to source quality seeds and supplies. So he started the business himself โ€” and invented a sprouting kit he called The Sprout House.

1983โ€“1995

Steve went on to author 11 books on healthy living โ€” including Sprouts, the Miracle Food โ€” translated into 15 languages. His mission: make clean, homegrown food accessible to everyone.

1998

The House was passed on to "Sprout Lady" Rita, who nurtured it for nearly three decades and became a widely respected expert in the sprouting world โ€” known for her book Homegrown Sprouts: A Fresh, Healthy & Delicious Step-by-Step Guide to Sprouting Year-Round.

2026
